Barn Find 1965 Chevy Impala | Hidden Away For Over 30 Years!

The 1965 Chevrolet lineup was inclusive of all buying needs, wants, and desires with something for everyone, from full-size station wagons to compact rear-engine, air-cooled Corvairs.

The redesigned Impala series wore new-for-1965 body styles and crisply tailored lines belying a new 119-inch wheelbase length. The boxy linear appearance, courtesy of Bill Mitchell and his stylists, gave the Impala even more streamlined contours emphasizing forward-arching fender peaks similar to the designs found on the Corvette Sting Ray. The previous upright front grille design was replaced by a forward-leaning unit, and the concave rear insert was gone in favor of a sloping rear deck punctuated with multiple tail lights. Horizontal body-side character lines replaced the bright body-side trim used on past models.

The Impala represented upscale full-size comfort but continued to carry the legacy of muscle-car-like characteristics even as midsize vehicles began to seriously challenge for market share. Buyers agreed with the all-new styling, engine options, and accouterments with more than one million examples sold.

The 1965 Chevrolet Impala was available as a 4-door sedan, 2- and 4-door hardtop, station wagon (with seating for either 6 or 9 passengers), and as a convertible. Prices ranged from $2,670 - $3,070. Options and various engines raised that figure even further. In total, around 56,600 examples of the six-cylinder models were built, and 746,800 units of the V8 Impalas. 72,760 were convertibles.
